Under our support for Dementia Singapore, our Singapore volunteers brought the seniors out on two visits to the Gardens by the Bay where the seniors had the chance to go on a customised sensory tour.
Volunteers from across Kuok Group Singapore were matched one to one with the seniors, some accompanied by their care-givers, on special sensory tours to Gardens by the Bay. Guides from the Gardens team encouraged both the seniors and volunteers to stop and smell the flowers, fruits, and touch the leaves and other plants they came across in the Gardens. The participants also learnt more about how plants produce and use scents both fragrant and foetid to communicate, protect themselves, and attract animals to do their bidding.
It was also a chance for our volunteers to learn more about caring for seniors with dementia from the staff and care-givers. True to the saying that “ it’s more blessed to give than receive”, our volunteers came away more enriched.
