Beach clean-ups

Participating in beach clean-ups aligns with our commitment to environmental sustainability and supports our maritime business by fostering a cleaner marine environment, which is essential for the health of the broader ecosystem. Since 2023, our volunteers have been actively participating in beach clean-up activities.

In 2024, Kuok Group Singapore was ranked among the Top 5 companies in terms of amount of marine trash collected in partnership with Green Nudge. Across a series of six beach clean-up sessions held in 2024, our staff volunteers collected a total of more than 983.5kg of trash. Some of the top items found include plastic packaging, plastic bottles and styrofoam. Our clean-up efforts support the planting of more than 50 mangrove seedlings which will absorb 1,000 kg of CO2e.

During the clean-up sessions, our volunteers also took away tips on what they should and should not do when they visit the beach next time. These tips include cleaning up any trash, not taking organic items like seaweed, shells that belong to the natural ecosystem from the beach, avoid bringing or using disposable items which may end up in the sea, bringing their own reusable bottles, cups, containers and utensils and buying canned drinks over plastic bottles as the former are more likely to be recycled.

Volunteers from our Saudi office also participated in beach clean-up sessions on the Khafji beach in June 2024 with 15 volunteers actively cleaning up the beach to make it more conducive to visitors.
