Mangrove tree planting

Mangrove tree planting is part of our Group’s commitment to enhance environmental sustainability by protecting coastal ecosystems, promoting biodiversity, and mitigating climate change through carbon sequestration.

In Malaysia and Philippines, staff volunteers participated in mangrove tree planting activities. Protecting mangroves and restoring damaged ones helps combat climate change through carbon sequestration as they are some of the most carbon-rich ecosystems on the planet, storing on average 1,000 tonnes of carbon per hectare in their biomass and underlying soils.

Mangroves constitute a remarkably diverse and essential ecosystem that works in tandem with other marine environments such as seagrass beds and coral reefs. These ecosystems are crucial not only for the health of our oceans, coasts, and the biodiversity they support but also for human well-being.

With a fifth of the world’s mangroves disappearing, there is an urgent need to protect and restore mangroves, as they serve as vital habitats and a significant source of food for many indigenous peoples and local communities around the world.
